  • Woman sitting at a laptop in a bright office, looking thoughtful and concerned.
  • I work for a retirement community as a Life Enrichment coordinator.
  • There are three people in my department - my boss, Brian and I. We stagger our days so someone is always around to support events and activities.
  • Well my boss just fired Brian and left for a 3 week long cruise. There are events and activities 7 days a week. So
  • now no one is scheduled for the next 3 Friday or Saturdays. I was not asked to work overtime. There are lectures and concerts
  • scheduled, presenters/bands are going to show up and no one will be there to help them. This is going to look
  • very bad for the facility and my department. Let alone waste their time and damage our relationship.

  • Now here's my question- do I let it fail? Or do I speak with my bosses boss? (I tried calling my boss but she is on the cruise and out of service.)
  • UPDATE- First thing I did was email my boss about the coverage. She did not reply. Then I went
  • down to speak with the Director of Operations (my bosses boss). He seemed quite upset with my boss. I
  • offered to work this next two days but told him that I was unable to cover the other Friday's and Saturdays (one is
  • my birthday weekend and I have plans). He was grateful that I offered to cover today and tomorrow and thanked me for bringing it to his
  • attention. He is going to talk. to the leadership team so see who can cover and if no one can we will cancel the events.
  • Few things to clarify: -The residents I work with are independent. So no state regulations but loud and
  • wealthy residents who take activities and events seriously.
  • -My boss did not inform me that she was letting Brian go, but I did know he was on a PIP so I was not surprised.
  • -I needed to bring it to the higher ups because one of the entertainers emailed me when they did not get a reply
  • from my boss. At that point it would have been negligent to ignore it.
  • Thanks for all the advice!!
  • Chelsea Man31 Well, the boss is going to be in deep hot water upon return no matter what. Kudos to OP for being concerned. They
  • should talk to ultimate on-site manager with authority to make the decision of how to cover Fri/Sat the next 3 weeks.
  • 546833726D616C Go up the chain and tell whoever that the events and activities for the next 3 weekends need to be canceled. "Should I do it or would you like to?"
  • Yikesish Id reach out to the boss's boss. It shows that you are proactive and maybe you will get the promotion when they fire your boss lol.
  • If you can propose any solution, that would look great as well.
  • Sad_Win_4105 You need to go to your bosses boss. Otherwise, when the sh hits the fan, the will scream "why did nobody tell me!!!!"
  • Do it, get some help, and let your boss feel the heat upon her return.
  • Specialist-Funny2101 Your boss must have a boss.. I would go over their head to see what else can be done I need someone elses salary or something
